Thames Side Sensors has developed a range of load cells for controlling forces in high frequency fatigue testing and other repetitive applications.   Designed for the testing of component parts in the aerospace and automotive industries, the load cells help to improve aircraft safety and car comfort.

Aerospace fatigue testing requires the application of forces, in most cases by hydraulic jacks, many times per second to replicate the loads produced in flight.   The testing enables engineers to monitor the effects of flight on components in order to maintain a high level of safety.   The same method is used to simulate the effects of road forces at different speeds for automobiles, enabling engineers and designers to ensure optimum performance and comfort. &nbp; The VC7600 range has been specifically designed to monitor and control accurately the force applied by the actuators during such testing.

Like the components being tested, the actuators are subject to fatigue and wear, but the VC7600 has excellent long term stability and ensures the forces applied are consistent and exact throughout the testing.   Unlike conventional column cells which have a low resistance to bending moments, the VC7600's multi-shear web design is highly resistant to off-axis forces.   If there is initial mis-alignment during installation, or the hydraulics become mis-aligned during testing, the load cell will still ensure accurate results.

The VC7600 can be supplied with a factory-fitted base plate designed to optimise the load cell's performance, eliminating the requirement to mount it on a flat ground surface.   Sealed to IP67, it can be manufactured in stainless steel or alloy steel, depending on application, and is available in a range of capacities from 2 kN to 1000 kN.
